Gallium Metal
Description
Elemental Gallium is a rare earth element, with a melting point of around 30°C. Gallium is not found as a free element in nature, but as Gallium(III) compounds in trace amounts in other ores. In fact, Gallium is produced exclusively as a by-product during the processing of other metals.
Appearance
Gallium Metal is a soft, silvery blue metal.
Solubility
Gallium is not soluble in water.
Uses
Gallium alloys are used in thermometers as a non-toxic alternative to mercury, in semiconductors and as component of low melting point metal alloys. Gallium Metal is used in gold and dental alloys too.
Classification
Gallium metal is not considered a metal with toxic properties.
Safety
Request safety data sheet (SDS) and refer to points 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 13.
