Description
Information not available
Appearance
Tellurium dioxide occurs as a white powder.
Solubility
Tellurium bioxide is highly not soluble in water and soluble in concentrated sulfuric acid.
Uses
Tellurium is a rare element mainly combined with other metals like gold and silver. The oxide is obtained by adding sulphuric acid to an alkaline solution of tellurium; it remains stable in air and burns with a green flame giving off bioxide. It is an amphoteric substance and therefore can act both as an acid or as a base depending on the solution it is in. It reacts with acids to make tellurium salts and bases to make tellurites. It can be oxidized to telluric acid or tellurates. Tellurium dioxide is used as a catalyst for rubber and for metal surface treatment.
Classification
Tellurium bioxide is dangerous if inhaled or swallowed and if it comes into contact with skin and eyes. Request safety data sheet (SDS) and refer to points 4, 5, 6, 8, 10,13, 14, 15. Technical specifications are provided on request according to the application.
