Appearance
Zinc oxide is an odorless white powder which upon heating becomes yellow and on cooling returns to its natural color.
Solubility
Zinc oxide is soluble in ammonia and in acetic acid but insoluble in water and ethyl alcohol.
Uses
Zinc Oxide is used in the preparation of cement, in the rubber industry, in dentistry and especially in medicine as an antiseptic for preparing ointments, powders and band-aids. Zinc oxide is also used as a raw material for the production of ceramic pigments and frits and for the agricultural sector.
Classification
Prolonged exposure with zinc oxide may cause irritation to skin with signs of allergic dermatitis. Zinc oxide causes moderate irritation to the eyes on prolonged contact with reversible conjunctiva.
